Spotlight: Gregg Rennie

August 11, 2023

Gregg Rennie joined the Health Sciences Information Services team just over two years ago. Originally brought on to lead efforts with the COVID-19 Analytics and Systems project which included the IT workflows for resulting, contact tracing, exemptions, related data integration, software development, compliance reporting, and notifications for the operations supporting the Health and Safety Guidelines. This work naturally led Gregg to his current role of associate director of Campus Health Systems, an effort aimed at improving health requirement compliance campus-wide and delivering an excellent user experience in a single platform for key campus populations.

Tell us about what you do for the Yale health sciences campus.

I support the Campus Health Systems team by making sure our stakeholders and team have everything they need to be successful.  Campus Health Systems maintains a public health infrastructure that protects core university missions while maintaining the health and productivity of its community in the face of routine and emergent health risks. The core functionality includes a series of automated daily reports and notifications to appropriate audiences. My team provides support for inquiries related to the related software, reports, and compliance requirements.

What was your path to Yale?

My path to Yale was very long and a bit circuitous. I’ve worked in many different industries creating and implementing a lot of interesting organizations and systems. I’ve worked in (and for) aerospace, the US Navy, the US Dept of State, Quick Server Restaurants (QSR), and insurance companies in addition to creating and managing large support centers. One interesting thing was that I started my career helping to build nuclear submarines for the US Navy and just before I came to Yale, I was at Subway HQ helping to make submarine sandwiches.

What is your favorite memory?

My favorite memories are traveling to 48 states and 7 European countries with my family.

What are your hobbies?

Hobbies are bird hunting with my dog, fishing, and boating and I own a small woodworking business that makes one-of-a-kind epoxy and live-edge furniture and house decorations.
