Beginning in early 2022, as the Analytics Center of Excellence team was forming, the Yale School of Medicine started to build a dedicated data analytics platform, like the system hosting the university’s finance and research enterprise data marts. The final advance came in January 2023, when the production environment was deployed to successfully host the first data mart developed for YSM leadership, the Faculty Lifecycle Analytics (FLA) data mart.
“Launching the Faculty Lifecycle data mart in the School of Medicine will create a central repository of trusted information about YSM faculty, for consistent leadership reference,” said Maureen Velazquez, IT Manager – Analytics for the School of Medicine. “Quarterly updates of the data mart provide access to complex Workday information the week following the end of each calendar quarter, which saves YSM administration over a month of work and waiting.”
The FLA data mart takes nightly data feeds from Workday via the People Hub. The YSM FLA data mart provides foundational data about staff, faculty, and their demographic and academic appointment details. The first executive reports provide insight into quarterly trends about faculty ranks, tracks, and organizational head count distributions by important demographic and academic appointment variables. The data mart is a central resource for the YSM Academic Analytics team to streamline ad hoc requests about faculty administration and develop new analytical dashboards and reports for YSM leadership.
The mart is currently being enhanced with additional capabilities such as academic salary benchmarks from the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC), data fields to track ladder and turnover metrics, and security enhancements to extend reporting access to additional community members, in line with their organizational scope and current Workday Academic and/or Human Capital Management system access.
